Dear Mr. Ford

I read with some concern that Howard University may be considering dropping its wrestling program. My club, Southern Maryland Wrestling Club in Prince Georges County, has long been a strong supporter of Howard's wrestling programs, both as a destination for local wrestling talent and as a place where Howard wrestlers can train in their off season. Wrestling in our region at the youth and high school levels remains strong and growing. Wrestling is still one of the very few remaining sports where size has nothing to do with success. It is unfortunate that artificial quotas rather than popularity have hurt wrestling at the college level in recent years. However, myself and the many SMWC members over the years have always considered Howard as a safe haven for our sport. Rather than simply considering dropping the program, let me ask what I can do to keep it viable for our community.
