Maryland/Virginia Senior All-Star Challenge

Beginning 3 years ago, Maryland, Virginia, and other Mid-Atlantic states have conducted post season senior duels against each other. One of the most intense of these duels has been the Maryland vs Virginia Senior Challenge. Not only is the event televised and covered by the Washington Post, the winner carries bragging rights for the entire following year.

Maryland's record against Virginia is now 1-2. Maryland suffered a 44-13 defeat last year, but have an outstanding senior class for this year. Senior State Duel Meet Coach Bruce Gabrielson will be making the final 1999 team selection. Only one senior at each weight can represent Maryland, so the wrestle-offs at the Senior Classic on Tuesday, March 9th, will be the last opportunity for a senior to be selected.

Directions to Hayfield HS: Take Rt 1 south about 4-5 miles from the Washington DC Beltway at the south end near the Wilson Bridge. The school is on the right. Weigh-ins art 4-6 pm Friday with matches scheduled to start around 7 pm.
